 Get to Know Emily

👋¡Hola! I’m Emily and I am the Spanish teacher and blogger behind Español con Emily. 


I started learning Spanish as a freshman in high school. I studied Spanish Education in college, and spent a semester in Puerto Rico.


I first started sharing resources on TPT towards the end of my first year of teaching, and now in my 7th year of teaching, I’ve started a blog!


I’ve taught Spanish to 7th and 8th graders at an explorer level, & Spanish 1-4 to 8th-12th graders. 


I started teaching at a smaller school where the middle and high school were connected. I taught 65 minute classes to 7th-12th graders (Exploring 7 & 8, through Spanish 4). 


Then I moved and have lived the "traveling teacher" life these past several years: ESL to 5th-12th graders, Exploring Spanish to 6th through 8th graders, & high school classes combined with Spanish 3 and 4 students. I’m never in the same room for very long during the day, and even travel to a different school during lunch!

Being so busy, I know how important it is to be able to find quality resources online that can save you time as a teacher! That's why I started my TPT store back in 2017.


My favorite levels to teach are Exploring levels and Spanish 3 & 4. 


I love the ability to teach using comprehensible input especially with middle schoolers, and love teaching units with novels, especially the books that incorporate culture & grammar in a natural way!

Spanish Classroom Speaking, Listening & Writing Activities - Find Someone Who! One of my favorite activities to do in Spanish class that gets students out of their seats and conversing with their classmates, is a good ol’ Find Someone Who activity. After talking with fellow colleagues about what this looks like in their classes, (even math teachers have done this activity!) I realized there’s many different variations of what this can look like depending on the subject, time of year, and grade level. The most common time of year my colleagues were saying they use these activities is at the start of the school year , as an ice breaker activity.   What does my Alebrije Look Like? - Alebrijes Project for Spanish Class This alebrijes project is such a fun way to wrap up Día de los Muertos lessons, or after watching the movie Coco in Spanish class. My students love being creative, and getting to hang their projects in the classroom or hallways - something they don’t get to do often being in high school! This project works for all levels: Spanish 1, 2, 3 and beyond! How this project works: Students will take the 10 question “ questionnaire ” which is similar to old-school magazine quizzes, or like those modern day Buzzfeed-type quizzes. It asks them about their personality characteristics, when their birthday month is, and some of their “favorites” relating to vocab often covered by November 1st, in Spanish 1.  Once they answer all 10 questions, they will use the “answer key” to find out what their alebrije consists of (colors, design, and which body parts are made up of which kind of animals).
